6 Regent Terrace

History of 6 Regent Terrace

Although this card is printed I Rattee, it is assumed that this is James Rattee, the celebrated wood carver and founder of Rattee and Kett. He was born in 1820 and set up his works in Slaughterhouse Lane/Station Road in 1843. This business card suggests that he had premises prior to 1843 in Regent Terrace. The dictionary of National Biography states that he left Norwich in 1842 to come to Cambridge and set up in Sidney Street.
