Miss Frances Corbin, lodging house keeper
In 2026 JM sent the following notes:
Frances Corbin, who was married to John Corbin, my direct relative on my father’s side, my great great great grandfather. My grandmother was Muriel Corbin before marriage, her father was Ernest Cullen Corbin; his Grandfather was John Corbin. Frances was John’s second wife and not the mother of Joseph or Emily Corbin. Their mother was Sophia Lambert (later Corbin) who died in 1845 and then John married Frances her sister in 1847.
John was originally from Cheshire but he and Frances lived in Cambridge as Sophia and Frances came from Cambridge but they were married in Shoreditch. After John’s death in 1867 at Malcolm Street Frances carried on living at 24 Malcolm street where she ran it as a lodging house along with three of her grown up children, one of whom, Thomas was a college cook. In the 1881 census they have two Cambridge University students living as lodgers, William Schank, 24 yrs and James R Ewing, 19 yrs, and a servant Susan Cracknell, 18 yrs. Frances died in 1889, 70 years of age; she also had a daughter called Frances who was living at the house so I presume she is then the lodging house keeper as stated on your web page.
