6 Town Lane, Pampisford (RGL2023)
Listed Buildings
Cottage, formerly the rectory till c.1840. Early C16 and C17 with C19 addition. Timber-framed with plastered infill and plaster covered; painted brick.
In “Old Pampisford” Roddie Beere describes the shop started by his father Arthur Mark Beere c.1950. It was originally a table in the lounge where sweets, cigarettes, dry goods and mineral water were sold. His father then set up a post office and became village postman. Roddie continued to run the post office until 1975.
On the lintel beam above the old barn on the left of the house is the name ‘Valeria’. This may well have been the name of the ship whose timbers were used in the building. It was believed to have sunk in the Thames.
